December, 2018
As the winter holidays of 2018 come upon us, I am happy to have work in 4 Detroit galleries:
Arts Extended Gallery
Detroit Repertory Theatre - Gilda Gallery
National Conference of Artists Gallery
Swords into Plowshares Peace Center  and Gallery

Arts Extended Gallery is nestled in a neighborhood on Detroit's West side near Tireman and Livernois.  It is next door to the residence of Dr. Cledie Taylor, the founder and director of the gallery.  She is a collector and ardent art supporter.  Richard Reeves, pictured above, is her Curator of Exhibitions.  I am delighted to have been invited to participate in All Things Great and Small.  The gallery is open on Saturdays from 12 - 4 PM.  Please call Richard Reeves at 248 943-5367 to confirm your visit.
In addition to theatrical productions, Detroit Repertory Theatre also hosts art exhibitions in the Gilda Gallery.  Audiences see the original works of art prior to and after the performances as well as during the intermission.  It is an honor to have my work in the gallery together with my friend, Adwoa Muwzea.  I look forward to seeing you at the Champagne Reception!
National Conference of Artists, Michigan Chapter maintains a lobby gallery as well as more intimate space in connection with its offices within the Northwest Activities Center at the corner of Meyers and Curtis on the West side of Detroit.  I am delighted to be able to present Intergalactic Cairn 2 at the NCA.  Stop in and check out all the work available for the discerning collector.
Swords Into Plowshares Peace Center and Gallery hosts art exhibitions throughout the year.  The gallery is snuggled between Central United Methodist Church and what until recently was Cheli's Chili Bar on Grand Circus Park.  For the last 6 years, the Gallery has hosted an exhibition called Art4Detroit featuring art by Detroit artists for the Detroit community.  The work is as diverse as the city itself.  While many of the works have Detroit or Detroiters as subject, there are also abstract and whimsical works to be seen.  It is my pleasure to have work included in this fine assembly of Detroit artists.
If you choose to visit any or all of these locations, I recommend that you look them up on Facebook or do a search online for their websites for hours and directions.  You will see an astonishing variety of work by some of Detroit's most talented and imaginative individuals.

October, 2018
In May of 2018, for my solo show, An Effervescent Universe of Stitched Phenomena, at Detroit Fiber Works, I utilized blocks of industrial corrugate as wall pedestals to add dimension to the installation of the work.
I knew I would use the corrugate again to create an installation for the Jordan River Arts Council's invitational fiber show, Uncharted Spaces, set for October 14 - November 11, 2018.  It started out looking like this in my studio.  Piles of corrugate were glued into unified forms, some squat with openings in them, others imposing and tall.
I set up a spray booth in my old, listing garage and set to work.  I wore a bandana, a respirator rated for use with spray paint, goggles, nitrile gloves, long sleeved shirt, old jeans and old shoes.  I set a pair of window fans near the front edge of the garage to suck air out of the garage as fresh air came in around me.

I set the work on a turntable to rotate it as I sprayed.

I bought 14 cans of black spray paint, a trigger handle to avoid finger strain and hand fatigue, and spray caps to prevent over spraying as much as possible.
At the end of August, my studio looked like this. Six Intergalactic Cairns ready to be professionally photographed by Robert H. Hensleigh.  Claire D'Aoust transported them to Hensleigh's studio and back and designed the checklists identifying all 121 stitch pieces spread across the six Intergalactic Cairns.  I appreciate their help and attention to detail.

I hope that if you happen to be "up north" taking a fall color tour, that you will detour to East Jordan, MI to see my work and that of the other 8 artists in the show.
Thank you for your patience as well as your continuing support.

Happening this week-end and next---June 9 and 15, 2018!

Please join me HERE:
I have two of my earliest Threadlines in this exhibition at Arts Extended Gallery, 5359 Vancouver, Detroit, MI  48204.

Dr. Cledie Taylor directs this gallery nestled in a residential neighborhood within the triangle bounded by Livernois, Tireman, and the Jeffries Freeway on the West Side of Detroit.  Come see art by over 23 artists in a comfortable setting.
and HERE:

This is your chance to hear the story of the work in this show, how I made it and why.  It is also your chance to ask me questions about it!

Please note that this is also the day of the Gallery Crawl in this burgeoning arts district on Livernois.  Parking may be at a premium, just to give you a "heads up," but please don't let that scare you away.  Download the Park Detroit app and utilize the city's pay-by-plate on street parking system.  It gives you a maximum of 2 hrs parking.  Free parking is available in a small lot at the corner of Livernois & Outer Drive just steps from Detroit Fiber Works as well as on Outer Drive.

and HERE TOO!
Next Friday, June 15, 2018, be sure to attend this opening.  I have created three, new, 3-D pieces for this show.  This is an outstanding group of artists and I am happy to be in such good company.
